Cross Country comes in FIRST PLACE at Polk County Championship Meet

Our Geneva Boys and Girls Varsity teams both won FIRST PLACE at this weekend’s County Cross Country Championship! 

Kicking off the morning, the boys varsity team had 5 runners in the top 10, scoring an impressive 29 points to second place’s 67, to secure the 2nd team championship in school history.They were led by, Jude Stainsby in 10th (16:59), Ryder Dempsey in 9th (16:58), Benaiah Lawton in 7th (16:49), Tyler McDow finishing runner-up (16:13), and overall champion Oliver Dempsey (15:50).

The girls followed it up by winning their first team championship in school history, also running away with the competition with only 43 points to second place’s 73. They were led by medalists Sarah Lawton in 9th (21:19), Sophie Yates in 7th (20:57), Ella Feder in 6th (20:43), and Carolina Austin in 3rd (20:27). 
Rounding out the day, we had some strong individual performances in the JV and Middle school divisions. Isaac Ostrom and Jeremiah Casper both medaled for the JV Boys and Naomi Ostrom medaled for the JV girls. For the middle schoolers, Anna Lawton and Lincoln Austin both medaled and finished top 15, while Sawyer Dempsey took home the individual championship in a sprint finish (11:13).
